Bev Currie spent his time farming and ranching in the Verlo and Cantuar districts in Southwest Saskatchewan. Today only a cairn stands to mark the spot where the thriving hamlet of Verlo once stood. It was in Verlo where Bev attended grade school and as a teenager worked in his uncle's general store. The antics of the customers waiting in the store for the mail to be sorted and their grocery boxes to be filled were no doubt the inspiration for some of these stories. He says they are also the product of too many hours sitting on a tractor letting his imagination run wild.
Whatever the genesis, this delightful array of stories will test all of the reader's emotions. From the hilarious to the heart-rending, Currie has managed to capture the essence of life in a small Saskatchewan prairie community.
